That happens if somehow the shared project is added twice; unload the iOS project and make sure there is only one reference in the .csproj to the .projitems shared project. I'm not sure what causes this - but I have seen it. It sometimes helps to remove the shared project reference and re-add it too. Using symlinks would result in duplicate code in each assembly that references it.
