WebThe use of carbapenems and glycopeptides would be safest and easiest since no resistance has so far been reported in cases of SBP, but this is not practical and the choice of antibiotics needs to be stratified for parameters defining the risk of resistant bacteria. WebNorfloxacin has been the recommended choice for SBP prevention. However, its use has raised concerns about antibiotic resistance. Rifaximin has been suggested as an alternative. We investigated the efficacy of rifaximin against norfloxacin in primary and secondary prophylaxis of SBP.
