The only way to get the performance back would be to substantially raise your compression ratio in order to take advantage of the higher octane rating of E85. E85 has an octane rating ranging from 100-105, regular unleaded gasoline has an octane rating of 87. That would give you an idea what it should run like or you could just leave it that way. A stock mech. fuel pump for an SBC is about $12 as apposed to $50-$100 for an electric one.
