Cannot drag and drop text in word

WebI cannot highlight text in Word. I can still do it on the internet, so the problem is in Word. I selected and unselected "drag and drop text editing" many times and also "select entire word when selecting text" both in the Edit section of preferences. I updated Word to the newest software. I don't know what to do now.
