I did a heated wheel retrofit on my 98 540 before I sold it, and liked it so much that I had to find a way to put one into the M5 since it was not an option. After some searching, I found on the X5 forums that besides the wheel and airbag, they only needed a slip ring with the heated leads to make it work.
